Water Association Of Northern Burgenland

Introduction

The Wasserleitungsverband Nördliches Burgenland (WLF) is an association of local authorities which was founded in 1956. It is composed of 65 municipalities located in three districts ( Eisenstadt, Mattersburg and Neusiedl).  Its main task is to sufficiently supply members with high quality water. In 2007 its legal base was amended.

Via 57,000 taps, the WLV supplies drinking water for approximately 150,000 people and up to 200,000 people during the summer months. To accomplish this, 13,2 Million cubic metres of water are pumped out of our thirty-three wells and springs.  In order to deliver the water we need, 2,500 kilometres of water pipelines have been installed and maintained. Each of our customers consumes an average of 207 litres of water per day. Our most important water resource is situated in Neudörfl and consists of two wells which provide 600 litres per second of the best quality drinking water.

The WLV not only provides drinking water, however.  It is also very much involved in issues such as ground water protection, prevention of ground water pollution and promoting an intact environment for the well-functioning supply of drinking water.

A total of almost 130 people are employed at both locations--the headquarters in Eisenstadt and the district office in Neusiedl am See.

In 2007 the sub-company WLV GmbH was established.

The WLV-mascot “Tropfi” particularly enthuses children and arouses interest for a broad range of topics concerning water.
